ELBA – Irma Fay Edwards, age 92, of Elba, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, Aug. 14, 2012, at the Cassia Regional Medical Center after suffering a heart attack.
Fay was born on Nov. 15, 1919, in Heyburn, Idaho. She was the sixth of nine children born to Francis Ray and Mary Lucinda Heiner Stimpson. She received her education in Heyburn, and graduated from Heyburn High School. She married Rex Ira Edwards on April 21, 1937, in Burley. They were sealed for time and all eternity in the Logan Utah LDS Temple on July 23, 1970.
She was an active member of the LDS Church and had served in the Young Women, as a teacher, secretary and nursery leader in the Primary, and as a visiting teacher.
She worked in the potato fields picking potatoes and was the fastest picker – and only rarely was her count of sacks for the day beaten. When they advanced to harvesters, she worked on them. She finally worked for Ore-Ida Foods Processing Plant and retired after 25 years of service having never missed a day of work.
She lived in Pocatello, Burley and Almo, Idaho, and finally made a permanent home in Elba, Idaho, where she lived the majority of her life. She loved gardening and raised a big, beautiful garden every year. This, she used to feed her family and she never let anything go to waste. Her basement was filled with her canning and preserving. In later years, what she didn’t can she gave to others. She was an excellent cook making delicious bread. She quilted beautifully and made her children and several grandchildren quilts prior to her hands becoming arthritic. She also crocheted lovely afghans and pillowcases, and embroidered many sets of tea towels. She was a proficient seamstress and taught all of her daughters how to sew. She loved to fish and went fishing often.
Fay is survived by two sons, Rex Junior (Patty) Edwards of Santa Clara, Utah, and Larry Edwards of Almo; three daughters, Betty Ann (Kenneth) Wallevand of Idaho Falls, Nila Rae Wilde of McKinnon, Wyoming, and Patricia Kay Asher (Dave Eckblad) of Albion; one brother, Ralph Page (Lillian) Stimpson of Carlsbad, California; 18 grandchildren; 37 great-grandchildren; and six great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Rex Edwards, who died in 1986; seven brothers and sisters, Albert Ray Stimpson, Orville Heiner Stimpson, Eva Irene Williams, Fern Gale Fisher, Glen Stimpson, Earl J. Stimpson, and Walter Sidney Stimpson; two sons-in-law, Theron W. Wilde and Terrill Asher; two daughters-in-law, Carol Edwards and Doris Edwards; and a granddaughter, LaKann Tucker.
The funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, Aug. 20, at the Almo LDS Church with Bishop Carl Boden officiating. Burial will be in the Sunny Cedar Rest Cemetery in Almo, Idaho.
Friends may call from 6 until 8 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 19, at the Rasmussen Funeral Home, 1350 E. 16th St., in Burley, and from 10 until 10:45 a.m. Monday at the church.
The family expresses their sincere appreciation to the staff at Highland Estates Assisted Living (especially Eric Hamblin) for the loving care given to Fay over the past ten months, and to the Elba Ward Relief Society for the many meals that were brought into her home.
